The Nareshwadi Learning Center operates under the Girivanavasi Pragati Mandal (GVPM) was established in 1974 by Padmabhushan Shri Karamshibhai J. Somaiya with the objective of setting up an integrated rural development model of education, health, agricultural development and economic self-reliance for the tribal community in the Dundhalwadi area(about 120 kms. from Mumbai) of Dahanu Taluka, Thane District in Maharashtra India.The area where the project operates from is called Nareshwadi campus.

Nareshwadi, is the residential school serving 500 students representing the local Warli tribal community, government placed children from Thane District and HIV/AIDS affected children (one or more parents has or is suffering from the disease) from the Mumbai area.

 
 

Atma Mumbai has partnered with Nareshwadi since February 2007, and will work together towards the following goals 2008;

  • Assistance for Nareshwadi in the development of an organizational plan, and operating structure for future sustainability. Including key roles and responsibilities of operating staff.
  • Development of strategic plan, organizational expansion and growth.
  • Develop a fundraising strategy and plan for organization, defining fundraising responsibility, including expansion plans and corpus development.
  • Development of a communication strategy and marketing plan for the organization.
  • Professional development sessions for SAHAS staff through Atma Mumbai workshops.
  • Engaging volunteers in operational roles within the organization.
  • Facilitate in opening dialogue with other organizations working in the same field, and the incorporation of NGO Muktangan's outreach programs.
